Cochin - Standard Size
The Standard Cochin is a large, fluffy, and irresistibly charming breed known for its feathered legs, gentle temperament, and eye-catching appearance. With their rounded bodies, full plumage, and soft, teddy-bear look, Cochins are one of the most ornamental and beloved chicken breeds among backyard keepers and poultry enthusiasts.
Although not the most prolific layers, Cochin hens lay 150–180 medium brown eggs per year and are known for being excellent mothers and dependable brooders. Their calm, friendly nature makes them an ideal choice for families, children, and peaceful mixed flocks. Standard Cochins are slow to mature but are exceptionally hardy, thriving in colder climates thanks to their dense feathering.
Whether you’re seeking a sweet, docile breed for your flock, a show-quality bird, or a gentle giant with lots of personality, Standard Cochins are a beautiful and rewarding choice.
