Frizzle
The Frizzle is one of the most eye-catching and unique chicken varieties you can add to your flock. Known for its signature curled, outward-facing feathers, the Frizzle has a fun, fluffy, and almost cartoon-like appearance that makes it an instant favorite among families, hobby keepers, and poultry enthusiasts. No two Frizzles look exactly alike, adding charm and individuality to your coop.
Because “Frizzle” refers to a feather type rather than a breed, these birds can come in a variety of colors and patterns. Their feathers may look dramatic, but Frizzles are gentle, sweet-natured birds that get along well in mixed flocks and are easy to handle. They are typically kept for their ornamental value and friendly personalities rather than high egg production.
Frizzle hens generally lay 120–180 small to medium eggs per year, depending on the breed they are based on. Their unusual feathers offer beautiful variety but may require some extra care in wet or cold conditions, as curled feathering is less protective than smooth feathers.
Breed Highlights:
Egg Production: 120–180 small/medium eggs annually (varies by base breed)
Temperament: Gentle, friendly, and great with families
Special Traits: Curled “frizzled” feathers; highly ornamental
Feather Colors: Varies widely depending on the breed
Climate Considerations: May need extra protection in wet or very cold weather
Best For: Ornamental flocks, families, beginner keepers, and anyone wanting a charming, unique bird
