Delaware
The Delaware is a classic American heritage breed known for its friendly nature, dependable egg production, and attractive feather pattern. Developed in the 1940s, Delawares were originally prized as a dual-purpose bird and remain a favorite for backyard flocks and homesteads today.
Delaware hens lay 180–220 large brown eggs per year and tend to mature early, making them a reliable choice for consistent egg production. Their striking white plumage with black barring on the neck and tail gives them a clean, crisp appearance that stands out beautifully in any flock.
Delawares are known for being gentle, curious, and easygoing, making them excellent for families, beginners, and mixed flocks. They are hardy birds that tolerate a wide range of climates and thrive in both free-range and coop settings.
